The center of true independent filmmaking, Austin, Texas, is called home by a slew of today’s top ground-breaking directors: Richard Linklater (A Scanner Darkly, School of Rock), Quentin Tarantino (Grindhouse, Kill Bill) and Robert Rodriguez (Sin City, El Mariachi). Austin has also played host to the South By Southwest Festival (aka SXSW) for over twenty years – showcasing new talent in film, music and interactive gaming. FILMMAKER WATCH
Arturo Cabanas was born, raised, and is currently living in New York City. His short film Res’ler won best documentary in Showtime Networks second annual alt.SHO.com Alternative Media Festival. More recently, Cabanas took home prize at the 2006 SXSW fest and also screened at the AFI/Discovery Channel’s SilverDocs fest for his startling film, Man Up. The six minute short focuses on a high school boy being pushed every which way by his father to “man up” on the wrestling mat, the streets and one vad är viagra day as a soldier in Iraq. Cabanas brings tough subjects to light – both on the big screen and as a producer for Current TV. |

First made famous on film in 1955, by Nicholas Ray’s Rebel Without a Cause,The Griffith Observatory in Los Angeles, California was the backdrop for many memorable scenes between James Dean, Natalie Wood and Sal Mineo. Built in 1935, the location has been shuttered for Erektil dysfunktion remodeling since 2002 and will once again open its doors to the public in November. Other films that have featured the iconic dome of the observatory have been Bowfinger, Charlie’s Angels and The Terminator. It was even virtually re-constructed in Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas. When in Los Angeles, make sure to stop by for the amazing views and to walk around one of the most historic movie locations in town. |
